Frequently Asked Questions

Sugaring and waxing are both hair removal methods, but they differ in almost every other way.

  1. Ingredients:

    • Sugaring: Sugaring paste is typically made from natural ingredients such as sugar, water, and lemon juice. It is often considered a more natural and hypoallergenic option.
    • Waxing: Wax can be made from various materials, including synthetic compounds like resins and polymers.
  2. Temperature:

    • Sugaring: Sugaring paste is used at body temperature, reducing the risk of burns or discomfort associated with hot wax.
    • Waxing: Wax needs to be heated before application, and there is a risk of burns if it is too hot.
  3. Hair Length:

    • Sugaring: Sugaring can be effective on shorter hair lengths, as short as 1/8 inch.
    • Waxing: Hair needs to be a bit longer, typically around 1/4 inch, for effective waxing.
  4. Discomfort:

    • Sugaring: Some people find sugaring less painful than waxing because the paste adheres more to the hair and less to the skin.
    • Waxing: The removal of wax, especially if it adheres strongly to the skin, can be more uncomfortable for some individuals.

Exfoliate the area 24 hours prior to sugaring. Avoid any lotions, serums or deodorant day of the appointment.

I recommend 1/4″ long (the length of a grain of rice). If you have been shaving prior to sugaring, try giving yourself 10 days without removing the hair before booking your appointment for the smoothest results!

  • Bikini- The sides! Cleaning up the outside of where your underwear lines sit.
  • Bikini Full- The sides and as much as you want off the top!
  • Brazilian- Everything! Front and back.

Do not sugar if you;

  • Have been on accutane in the last year
  • Current sunburn or open wound/sore/cut/rash
  • Injectables like botox/filler or permanent makeup in the last six weeks (specifically for facial sugaring)
  • Given birth in the last six weeks
  • Antibiotics or other medications that cause skin thinning or photosensitivity (please consult with your doctor before your appointment)
  • New tattoos or piercings in the last six weeks

I recommend once every three weeks at the start of your sugaring journey. Depending on your hair type, it can be 4-6 weeks thereafter.

Pores will be open for about 24 hours after sugaring and will be more susceptible to bacteria. Avoid tanning, hot showers, friction, tight clothing, exercise/sweat, and open water for 24 hours.

Aftercare is important to maintain results! exfoliate every 2-3 days using Tamara’s sugar bamboo + enzyme polish. This helps reduce the chance of ingrown hairs. Moisturize after using Tamara’s sugar soothing oil.

Yes! As long as you wear a tampon during your brazilian or bikini service.

Congratulations! Yes! Sugaring is safe throughout pregnancy. Please note, you may be more sensitive due to hormonal changes but I will do my best to keep you as comfortable as possible!
